DEATH IN CUSTODY DURING ROUTINE WELFARE CHECK TO BE INVESTIGATED

An internal investigation will be launched by Queensland Police after a man died in custody on Saturday.

Emergency services were called to Alice Street in Maryborough in south east Queensland around 11.50am for a welfare check.

Police say they were responding to reports of a man in his 30s acting erratically before he was restrained.

The man was sedated and transported to hospital via ambulance.

Police said he experienced a medical episode and died a short time later.

The incident will be looked at by the Queensland Police Ethical Standards Command.
