PEJUANG TO MAKE ITS PRESENCE FELT IN SABAH POLLS, SAYS MUKHRIZ

KOTA KINABALU: Pejuang will make its presence felt in the coming Sabah election, even if the party does not field a candidate, says Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir.

The party president said they were not demanding any seats but wanted to contribute to the development of the nation.

"The end goal is to contribute towards development for the people. We did not go into politics demanding seats... that is not our approach.

"Hopefully, other parties will not see us as a threat but instead as a party that can provide added value for the well-being of the people," he said after the party's Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration here on Saturday (May 4).

He also said Pejuang is willing to work with other parties in Sabah, including those under Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS).

When asked if Pejuang would contest in the upcoming Sabah election, Mukhriz said after the last state elections, they have strengthened themselves and learned from past experiences.

"We need to 'ukur baju di badan sendiri' (be aware of our own abilities). Previously, we would field candidates but now we are concentrating on areas where we have stronger support," he said.

Mukhriz acknowledged that Sabah's political landscape was different from the peninsula and needed a change in party strategy.

"In the peninsula, we are very open to Perikatan Nasional. In fact, directly or indirectly, we will aid their campaign for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election," he said.

Also present at the event was Sabah Pejuang chief Nicholas Sylvester.
