OCEAN INFINITY PROPOSES NOVEMBER START FOR MH370 SEARCH

BATANG KALI: US deep-sea survey firm Ocean Infinity has proposed that a new search mission for Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 start in November, subject to Cabinet approval, transport minister Loke Siew Fook said.

“We expect this (preparation) to take three months. If everything goes smoothly, Ocean Infinity will be ready to start the search mission in November.

“The search can’t start now due to the current weather in the South Indian Ocean.

“Ocean Infinity said the most suitable weather is between November and April,” Loke said at a press conference after officiating the ECRL career fair here today.

He said this was confirmed during a meeting between the ministry and the company on Thursday, when it submitted its latest proposal.

The Association for Families of the Passengers and Crew on board MH370 confirmed the meeting earlier today, saying Ocean Infinity’s presentation included a “no find no fee” option.

“We wait for the required paperwork to be sorted out and a new contract is inked. MH370 families would like to extend our appreciation to all concerned,” the association said.

In March, Loke had said he would meet with Ocean Infinity early this month to discuss the possibility of resuming the search.

MH370 went missing on March 8, 2014, with 239 people on board, en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.

Meanwhile, Loke said the unity government intends to bridge the gap between the different races in Kuala Kubu Baharu, not focusing on any specific ethnicity.

“We discuss non-racial issues, in this by-election we want to highlight political stability and economic development,” Loke said.

The Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election on May 11 will see a four-cornered fight between Pakatan Harapan’s Pang Sock Tao, Khairul Azhari Saut (Perikatan Nasional), Hafizah Zainuddin (PRM) and Nyau Ke Xin (ind).

The seat was vacated following the death of three-term DAP assemblyman Lee Kee Hiong due to cancer on March 21.
