COPS PROBING 2 DEATHS FROM SUSPECTED FOOD POISONING

PETALING JAYA: Police are investigating the deaths of a 17-year-old boy and a two-year-old girl following suspected food poisoning.

In a statement, Gombak police chief Noor Ariffin Nasir said reports were received on the incidents yesterday. He said the food in both cases was identified as fried been hoon and eggs.

He said the first case involved a local teenager who had eaten food brought home by his mother from a programme at a school in Gombak last Friday.

“After eating the food, the victim and both his parents had diarrhoea,” Ariffin added.

He said the teenager lost consciousness at about 1.30pm yesterday and was rushed to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for emergency treatment where he was pronounced dead by a medical officer.

Investigations on the second case found that the two-year-old girl had eaten food brought home by her father, a security guard, from a programme held at a school on Friday.

On Monday, the girl’s mother found that the victim had a fever, diarrhoea and was vomiting.

The victim’s mother brought her to Selayang Hospital for treatment, where the victim was pronounced dead, said Ariffin.

The remains of both victims have been sent to Selayang Hospital’s forensics department.
