ANWAR SLAMS THOSE WHO OPPOSE CIVIL SERVICE WAGE RISE

PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has criticised people, including MPs, opposed to the government raising the salaries of civil servants.

“Yes, I know there are critics. There are MPs who say, ‘It won’t pass in Parliament’.

“I want to see which face wants to oppose the increase in public service salaries and allowances.

“If there are people who dare to oppose this without a reasonable cause, we will defeat them in the election,” he said in Ipoh today, Bernama reported.

Anwar said the government’s decision to raise salaries, despite the country’s uncertain economic situation, is in appreciation of the public sector, including the security forces and firefighters.

He said the security forces and firemen are at the forefront of ensuring peace whenever the country faces adversity.

“This country is safe, safe from fires (and) landslides because of their service and sacrifice,” he said.

He said the fire and rescue department’s efficiency had been praised by world leaders, including Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

“He never stopped praising the efficiency of our firefighters because we had helped during a disaster,” he said, referring to the earthquake in Turkey in 2023.
